Happy birthdays are common, even if you don't celebrate it sometimes you will find yourself saying happy birthday and others will say it to you.
Not one to celebrate my birthday but it has become a checkpoint for reflection as to how 3 and half decades have gone. I reflect now about the wasted youth and the time that comes ahead if life is to carry on. The children around us will be young and youthful while we will walk forward into old age. What are our plans and what have we achieved?
I open the Quran today at random, sometimes I do this, I come across this:
I come across this message which truly could not have been better on a birthday.
We are told that this life will be so short when we reach the afterlife, we will come to the realization that this life we spent here was in fact so short in time we will think of it as a day or less.
Another thing to think about, people celebrate their birthdays but they forget to glorify the one who gave them life, Allah. The carrier for almost 9 months or so also has to reflected upon, your mother. Certainly your birthday if it needs to be celebrated needs to include your mother as your life was sustained before and after birth for a very long time.
May Allah create a useful existence for us from the start to the end. When we reflect about our life and celebrate, we need to reflect upon the day we die, for sure this will be the most important day of your life, where people will most likely gather without much choice in the matter.
I feel old. I feel like my teenage years and early to late 20s went in a flash. I have to reflect and make the changes today. May Allah forgive us.
