The Purpose of Life

One of the basic questions a human will ask himself:

What is our purpose in life?

The answer to this question floats around in many forms, religious and worldly answers. As Muslims we believe we are here to worship Allah alone:

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. (51:56)

Worship is a comprehensive term. You may think that Islam focuses the word worship around the prayer (salaah). Salaah is one of the most important aspects of worship yes but what does worship mean. The following is taken from the Hamza Tzortis lecture:

  • Obeying Allah
  • Loving Allah
  • Taking Allah as your authority
  • Knowing Allah
The basic questions for a man would be (also taken from the lecture below):

  • Who am I
  • Whose am I
  • For who am I
  • Why am I
May Allah bless Hamza for his efforts in the deen. He is a public speaker and he does much effort in our community by engaging in debates and discussion. His lecture below is a very strong one and it is one of the best I have heard. I have listened to this several times and I think I will use this to point several things in my blog because the strength of his delivery has taught me a few things.

Also there is another popular video that you may want to watch and as of the date of the publication, if you type in purpose life its the number one on the list:
